As part of our family Italy trip , we wanted to do the beautiful Amalfi Coast though we didn't have time to do an extensive trip there. So we decided to do a curated, and (long) day trip with our tour company.

Amalfi Coast

The Amalfi coast is best done in 2-3 days or more, but our tour was well organized and we had a great experience that didn't feel rushed. It was a long 13+ hour tour.

We did the Boat Hopping Amalfi Coast Tour from Walks of Italy.

We started out very early in the morning meeting at Termini station and quick breakfast the station. Happened to meet another couple traveling from India on the same tour, with a young kid. We hit it off, and that made the tour double the fun.

The tour guide was with us the whole trip, who gave us tips, arranged the travel and gave context to the beautiful sights we were about to see.

First came a mostly uneventful train ride from Rome to Naples which takes about an hour.

From there we took a van along the scenic Amalfi Coast road, stopping a couple of places for refreshments and pictures.

Driving along the Amalfi coast is considered to be amazing, but it’s also very dangerous and stressful. Not so amazing for the driver. So having a van drive us helped us enjoy the scenery without the stress.

And also glad we could breathtaking coast and the sea from a boat (in a later part of the tour) for a complete experience.

[I'm told the tour company has modified this tour to be completely from the Sea and no road trip involved.]

The road trip took us to the picturesque Positano.

The town was so gorgeous and even better than what we see on the postcards - had to pinch ourselves.

There was enough time to wander the little steep roads and markets of Positano, and did get to taste the famous lemon gelato at Collina bakery - it was amazing and bursting with flavor.

Lunch was planned for us at the also famous but very touristy Chez Black restaurant right on the water. The food was decent but the ambiance and the view by the beach was great.

After lunch, from the like-from-a-postcard Positano beach,

we took a lovely ferry all the way to the town of Amalfi. The ferry ride did have amazing views along the Amalfi coast and the seaside villages.

The town of Amalfi is very cute and we had fun browsing through the little streets and many colorful shops and a nice church in the center (which has many legends of its own).

Amalfi is famous for its lemons, and we did a Lemon farm tour (part of our day tour).

This included a nice climb up to the farm, and the farmer told us all about lemon farming there as we climbed through rows of lemons.

On top of the farm, we were greeted by incredible views, a homemade lemon cake, and a homemade limoncello which kicked like a horse.

We sat on a rustic farm table and enjoyed the food and drink along with gorgeous views of the town of Amalfi.

We ended our day shopping for lemony candies, limoncello to take home, and other stuff, and hanging at the beautiful beach.

The return journey did not have the road trip - we took a ferry back to Sorrento, and then a train straight to Rome. We were exhausted, but satisfied, and excited for the next day to go to Venice!
